What are Quats and why do you need to move away from them

The problem with Quats

Quats or QACs is the shortened term for Quaternary Ammonium Compounds which is a type of biocide, typically found in many cleaning and disinfecting products. Quats are efficient at ‘sticking’ or adhering to surfaces and substrates. This means they leave a residue that is potentially harmful to health and the environment. Hence conventional cleaning is usually a 2-phase process - firstly cleaning the surface with the product then secondly rinsing the surface with water. If surfaces are not rinsed, Quats can be transferred on to the food when it comes into contact with surfaces.

With the implementation of the European Biocidal Products Register (BPR) in 2012, all biocides became more controlled, and as part of this Quats now have a maximum residue level (MRL). This means that there is a level at which they can become harmful to humans, animals and the environment. Consequently, the use of disinfectants that contain Quats is restricted.

The Solution

QFD is an innovative & highly effective surface cleaner and degreaser. It does not contain Quats, sodium hypochlorite (bleach) or alcohol. QFD leaves no residue and can be used as often as required with no detrimental effect on humans, animals or the environment. Its unique formulation provides excellent log reduction against bacteria and fungi, even in dirty conditions and as it requires no rinsing off surfaces it eliminates the need for 2-phase cleaning and disinfection, which can provide significant time savings.

QFD has been tested to European Standards and is a first-choice product for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the healthcare, food processing and catering industries.
