Summary:

Independent testing was carried out on an Endurocide® Antimicrobial Plus Curtain that had been hanging by a dedicated MRSA bed in a Singapore Hospital for 12 months to evaluate whether the curtain was still antimicrobially effective.

Three tests were carried out to evaluate different qualities:

  • Aerobic plate count to test for pathogenic contamination (evaluates bioburden)
  • Quantitative treated fabric test AATCC 100 (evaluates biocidal properties)
  • Qualitative zone of inhibition fabric test AATCC 147 (evaluates biostatic properties)

The second and third tests were performed using Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia and MRSA and compared with results gained using untreated polypropylene as a control.

In all cases, the tested curtain fabric performed exceptionally well against bacteria and showed no loss of biocidal activity after a year’s use in a hospital ward.

* DISCLAIMER: While Endurocide® Antimicrobial Plus Curtains have been independently tested to remain antimicrobially and sporicidally effective for up to two years in-situ, the actual length of curtain use achieved will depend on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to; individual hospital practices, the natural longevity of polypropylene and the risk of the curtain being soiled from items such as blood, urine and general spills etc.  Curtains should always be replaced when visibly soiled.
